3 Home Remedies for Common Cold

People who suffer from cold and flu frequently face a lot downsides that accompany it. Body pain, headache, watery eyes, also the most irritating part – running nose and constant sneezes! Not a very good situation to be in honestly! Over the years, I have dealt with it all. Last year and half of this year was ruthless. But, I also managed to solve 70 % of my allergy problems. I completed my Yoga Teacher’s Training Course with flying colours! The processes and shuddhi kriya practises helped me control my common cold issue to a large extent. However, there are other things that supported and helped me get over them.

Sharing with you the three most useful home remedies for chronic cold, common cold and flu that seriously work wonders for me. They are completely safe, have no side-effects and are easy to practise. Sharing with an intention to genuinely help you, because I feel what it is like to be constantly down with cold and flu, it ain’t no good!

Here are the details of the home remedies:

Honey and black mustard seeds:

Take one tablespoon of mustard seeds and mix it with a little bit of honey. Gulp it down directly, drink warm water if needed. Do this every night for a week to see a significant difference.

Note: Use good quality real honey and mustard. Mustard is Rai in Hindi and Mahuri in Marathi.

Steam with Ajwain (Carom) Seeds:

Young ones are given ajwain steam to keep them warm. Ajwain is really good for our overall health. It fights bacteria and fungi. It is anti-inflammatory.

You will need a thin plate preferably aluminium which you can use to take your steam. Steel plates won’t work as they will instantly burn down all the ajwain seeds in no time.

Steps that I follow for the steam:

  • Heat the aluminium plate moderately.
  • Put about 2 spoons full of ajwain or carom seeds directly on the heated plate.
  • Switch off or lower the flame of the gas and allow the steam from the plate on your face immediately. Breathe in fully through your nose and mouth. You may feel uncomfortable, your eyes may turn waterly, you may sneeze a little but it is all worth it.
  • Repeat it for 4-5 times.
  • This can be taken twice a day. Preferably once before bed time.

This procedure instantly gives you relief from the running nose and relieves the congestion in the chest. You can breathe normally. Try it and feel the difference. Do not have anything cold after this process. Drink warm water only.
