One of the questions I get asked often is “which authors do I start with”, especially when it comes to Indian authors. So, here is a list of 5 Indian Authors that you may love reading if you are just starting out as a reader. (Also, avid readers may already love their work and are admirers.) Dive in right away!

If you follow me on my social media or the blog, you may know that she is my favourite. Not just because she is an excellent writer but also, she is a gem of a person. I had the privilege of meeting her in person and it was pure gold. 😊 Her books will be perfect for you if you are just trying out reading. I would recommend you start with I AM ANOTHER YOU. It is a perfect book to fall in love with reading. It is easy, inspiring and so positive. The story is interesting and would not bore you for sure! Most of her books are easy to read and comprehend. Her writing style is simple yet intelligent. Along with all the awards and recognitions, Priya Kumar is now officially named as the national and international best-selling author.

He has been named as the literary rock star! He made mythology cool for youngsters. Yes, I have had the opportunity to meet this wonderful person twice. 😊 His books sell in millions and his work is revered all the book lovers. If you are just starting out, his books will surely give you a lot of perspectives. Transfer you to a different world altogether!

Sudha Murthy ❤
Being the chairman of the country’s one of the top IT companies need not be easy. Sudha Murty has created her own identity as an author and a speaker with great reverence. I love her books because they have so much depth and soul. Her stories are so interesting and have a personal touch. She writes as though she is speaking to you personally. I have read a few of her books and, her short stories are my favourite! I wish to meet the award-winning author someday soon!

Anuja Chauhan ❤
Anuja Chauhan is another Indian author who is popular amongst the readers. She hails from the advertising background and was the Vice President and Creative Director at the renowned agency, JWT India. Her first novel ‘The Zoya Factor’ has won Cosmopolitan Magazine, India’s Fun Fearless Female award for literature (2008) and the India Today Woman award for Woman as Storyteller (2009). Her next book ‘Battle For Bittora’ has also won hearts and is in the process of turning into a movie. Her third book ‘Those Pricey Thakur Girls’ was the most anticipated ones. I personally have finished reading half of it and got fascinated by her storytelling.

Jhumpa Lahiri:❤
Jhumpa Lahiri is one of the most cherished writers in India. Her work has been appreciated and recognized across various spectrums. As per wikipedia, Her debut collection of short stories Interpreter of Maladies (1999) won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the PEN/Hemingway Award award, and her first novel, The Namesake (2003), was adapted into the popular film of the same name. Her second story collection Unaccustomed Earth (2008) won the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, while her second novel, The Lowland (2013), was a finalist for both the Man Booker Prize and the National Book Award for Fiction.
