5 reasons why we should celebrate Thanksgiving in India too!

The world has become a global village thanks to the awesome technology. Now you can connect to someone far away in some other country within minutes. We can see and talk to our loved ones via video calls no matter where they are in the world. The people, the communities, and cultures are coming together and for the good. Also, we, the Indian youth are so very influenced by the west and their culture citing it to be liberal. Since we are open to embrace western fashion and lifestyle among several other things in our life, might as well also choose to celebrate some really interesting traditions that the western countries have. One such festival is Thanksgiving!  Also, in my personal opinion, celebrating Thanksgiving is way more useful than celebrating Halloween in India 😛 (No offense though!)

What is Thanksgiving and why is it celebrated?

Well like every festival and tradition, there are several different theories to this one too. The festival is celebrated as an opportunity to thank for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. In the US, the celebration is often recognized as an event that took place when English colonists held a feast to thank Native Americans for helping them start new lives in the US. In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated in October while in the US it is celebrated in the fourth week of November. The festival is a beautiful time when people express gratitude and thankfulness to their fellow humans, friends, and family along with all the things that they appreciate and are grateful for in their lives.

Isn’t this a totally cool and an awesome thing? I completely adore the idea of appreciation and being grateful. So, here is a short list of 5 reasons why we should also celebrate Thanksgiving in India. I am sure you can think of many more reasons to add to it! (comment below if you think of more!)

  1. Yeah.. The concept in itself is great and there is no harm in adopting it in India. The only thing that can be of concern in the process is the integral part having Turkey plays for this festival. Indian adoption without Turkey chopping is the best thing.
