7 Non-Fiction/ Self-Help Books that I highly recommend!

Imagine a kickass introduction here…! Now, let’s dive right into the list, shall we?

7 Habits of Highly Effective teenagers

or 7 Habits for Highly Effective People

I read 7 Habits for teens when I was 13. Didn’t quite get it in the first go…so, I read it 4 times fully and several more times partly over the years. At 22, I tried reading 7 Habits for people and figured that I haven’t really gotten over the teenage mindset and I will sail perfectly from what I had learned from the teens’ book! In the adult version, the habits are the same basically but the situations and, the implementation is different. Because, of course, the problems that the teens face are a lot different from that of an average adult.

The teenager book is written by Sean Covey and the adult version i.e. 7 Habits for People is written by his father. For those who know me, the book literally changed my life. I swear by it. If you want to get your life together and want practical solutions, you must read the book. Also, this is my sincere request to all of you that please gift the teenager version to all your kids, friend’s kids, nieces and nephews and also make sure they read it. It is phenomenal how much it can impact their minds. It will help them to take the right decision which is highly beneficial in this competitive world.

The reason I could not read the adult version is that I already knew the 7 Habits by-heart. I will tell them to you in my sleep! So, I know how to use them. Also, the adult version is not as fun as the teen version. The font, I’m sorry did not work for me, the content is fab however, the format matters to me! If you are in your teens or early twenties then without a doubt, pick up 7 Habits for Highly Effective Teenagers and for adults – 7 Habits for Highly Effective People is a must-read!

4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris

Extremely sorry, the previous explanation got a little longer than usual. I feel for it deeply so went with the flow! I won’t take much time for this one. Okay, so I recently wrapped this one up after trying to finish it for months. I will tell you why…see every time I used to pick it up and read a few pages, it used to force me to get up and get some mad work done! I am not even kidding. The author’s writing and pace are amazing. It inspires you to work and finish it right now! It is indeed great for businessmen and freelancers to get valuable ideas and insights. But, it is also great for future entrepreneurs or anyone who wishes to develop a mindset of a businessman or get more from life! There is something for everyone. The initial chapters will make you go crazy and force you to wear your thinking caps. I couldn’t really relate to the later chapters because I am not in that stage of life yet (and so could finish it faster honestly) but, the book is damn helpful. Just get yourself a copy right away!

Management Mantras by Sri Sri

This book is a great compilation of several talks by H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji. If you are looking to organise your life and learn new tactics for ethical and smart business management, this book is for you. In your personal life as well, this book will help you sort out the chaos in your mind. A very short yet effective book that can be read on the go! It is one of the best self-help books that I have ever read.

Happiness Express by Khurshed Batliwala and Dinesh Ghodke

Another gem from Khurshed Batliwala (Bawa) and Dinesh Ghodke, the first one being Ready Study Go (Click on the name link for the full review) which was a phenomenal book for everyone who wishes to understand learning and know secrets to getting good marks. Happiness Express, on the other hand, touches subjects that are important for all of us to be happy and cultivate the habit of being happy. Some really important topics are discussed in such detail and also I such an interesting manner that you cannot but wonder and may also get lost in a short pondering session.

Topics like Mind Mapping, Radical Thinking, Meditation, and Memory among others are highly enlightening. The authors are highly experienced and share some real good anecdotes from their journey so far!

Thus Spoke Chanakya by Radhakrishnan Pillai

This is one of my favourite books in the self-help genre. Needless to say, Radhakrishnan Pillai is the country’s one of the most thoughtful and well-informed entrepreneurs. His expertise on Chanakya is on another level altogether. Also, Chanakya, as we all know was so damn intelligent and his Arthashashtra is an insanely powerful and useful tool if understood and implemented well. This book is not a one-time read; you have to re-read over and over again for implementing the ideas. As it is rightly said, the book offers ancient wisdom for daily inspiration.

This book teaches you how to be successful in life! The book guides you in every aspect just like Chanakya would if he was your friend. Be it business, studies, success, money, fame, family matters or even relationships and marriage, everything is discussed. You need your hands on this book for sure, folks!

I am Another You by Priya Kumar

I Am Another You by Priya Kumar is one of those books that upset you when you finish reading them because you are craving for more! I literally miss reading it every night since the day I have finished it. It is Priya Kumar’s spiritual journey that she took in the Netherlands to uplift herself after a setback in life. The narrative is a story of powerful breakthroughs! With this story, the author conveys a significant message that we all are one at some level.

I am also a very spiritual being and I thrive on spirituality for my growth and well-being. So, I could relate to what the author was trying to carry through the pages. The message that the book renders is insightful and thought-provoking. No wonder it is a No. 1 bestseller and has won several awards! Read the full review of I AM ANOTHER YOU and then get it for yourself and distribute it amongst your friends because it is so good!

How To Be A Bawse by Lilly Singh

She tells you that life is like playing Intendo, a video game! Some of our ancient Vedas and scriptures say the same, life is to be viewed as a game. I am not comparing the two but Lilly Singh explains all the aspects of living a successful life be it personal or professional just the way our ancients texts like Bhagwat Gita do but in a modern, practical way with examples that you and I can relate to! They are fun, crisp, to the point and the best part is like the words are straight from her soul. You will feel as if you are talking to Lilly one to one or watching one of her videos. So personal and so real. It is a very helpful survival guide for all of us with valuable insights for being a total Bawse not just in professional but also our personal lives. Moreover, it also helps us become a better person, a better version of ourselves.

Bonus Book Recommendation:

My debut book – Ria’s Diary

Ria’s Diary is an episodic tale which narrates the story of Ria right from her innocent childhood days to her gruesome adulthood. It is an inspiring read for many as it deals with relatable incidents, heart-breaks, episodes of utter bravery and tolerance. It is written in a diary format and suitable even for children above 10 and young adults. How an ordinary girl deal with life-challenges and breaks through it all to be the person she always aspires to be, is the real deal depicted in the book. I bet this will be indeed a happy and an inspiring read for you 🙂

All the books mentioned above actually make us think. I am so glad and proud of myself for picking them up and taking out time to read. They will change your mindset and if implemented, will help you improve your life for real! They are great gifting options as well 🙂

All the best, I am rooting for you!
