It’s New Year, the time when everybody is in a jolly mood, partying hard, or just welcoming the upcoming year with a smile. New Year is the time to celebrate, make peace with the past, embrace the future and, of course – ‘New Year Resolutions’. During this time many people plan the good things and try to fit them into their schedules. Well, if you are anything like me, then the word ‘New Year’s Resolution’ sure teleports you on a guilt trip! Guilt of not being able to sustain the resolution for long or as per planned. Guilt of penning down the promises and not following them! But, we all need to get over this and, not get disheartened right? Because, as we all know, we are humans, and this happens! So this time let us all gear up to take new resolutions or a good habit with an aim of continuing it for a respectable time and, for that I have a few tools that will aid us in the process.

Several researches have been made to address this issue of why people fail to follow or keep up with their New Year resolutions. There have been many ways in which one can actually succeed in following things that they have planned and this is not limited to the resolutions but, also to the things that one wants to do and accomplish in their day to day life. Measure The Price:

This is an important deal. We have tried taking resolutions and broken them like it’s no big deal. But, deep inside we know that it indeed is! So in order to ensure that we follow what we have taken up for a respectable time, we must first measure the price. For example, Your New Year Resolution is to exercise three times a week. Good and fine. But are you ready to pay the price for it? To accomplish this, you will have to get up early, plan your schedule, sleep early the previous nights and actually be committed to the promise. Let us also look at the benefits. This exercise regime will leave you, fitter, bring you in shape, increase your stamina, and you will feel good about yourself. Quite an overwhelming list to get associated with na?  So it’s time to ponder on whether we are ready to pay the price and still decide to take up the resolution. If your little inner voice says yes, then please go ahead, as mine does! This practice will sure help you to judge your willingness to take up a certain task. Next is writing it down in bold letters. Writing renders ten times more power to your goals. This practice has helped me big time!

Time Bound Goals:

Another important thing is having time bound vows. For Example: if we decide to join the gym, or study hard this year, or take up exercise for the rest of our lives or any other lie that we chose to tell ourselves, let me be a little bit in your face and tell you, it’s not going to work this way. We will break it immediately. So the better option is to have time-bound vows. And, decide to take up any activity for a specific period of time, say for a week or even less. And, also accomplishing that will give you so much joy! A feeling of achievement, trust me it’s a personal experience. Time-bound vows work!

Ask a Question:

Results have shown that if the resolution is made by asking a question rather than just making a statement work better. For example: rather than stating I am going to join the gym and exercise every day, ask a question by saying am I going to join the gym and exercise every day? This will ensure you give an honest answer to yourself hence, helping you decide whether or not to take it up!

Team up:

This is another cool way to stick to your resolutions. Roping up involves including people with similar resolutions or goals with you so that you can push each other to not give up. For example: if you want to take up the resolution of going for a morning walk, rope up your sister, mother or a friend with you who will motivate and accompany you in the activity. Both of you can aid and encourage each other in the other one’s lows.

These are a few ways in which we all can stick to our resolutions, improvise and step ahead in becoming better individuals. These ideas have helped me and, I sincerely hope it helps you to stick to your New Year Resolutions too! If you liked the post do share it and help maximum people.
