10 easy ways to uplift your mood!

There comes a phase when we feel low, heartbroken, lonely or experience just a sad day when distressing feelings creep our mind. There are times when certain events or circumstances do not turn out the way we want, and that steals our smile. Yes, it happens to everybody. But, do you know that the feeling of sadness or negativity is not so healthy for our system, our body. Whereas, when we are happy we attract happy situations and positive people. We are at our creative best and, the most productive when we are in a happy mind frame. So if you are feeling down, just pick yourself up and make that important switch in your mood. Because, honestly, only you can make yourself happy! And, we all deserve to be smiling, don’t we? 🙂

Here I have compiled a list of activities, by my observation and experience that help me to uplift my mood. These are common practices that I believe the majority of us already know and implement too!

Music:

Well, this is a no-brainer! Music is food for the mind. Music can do wonders and instantly uplift your mood. So if you had a bad start to your day, do not let it ruin the rest of it! Just switch on some good piece of music, your favourite song, sing along, (okay that rhymes!) enjoy the lyrics and boom! You feel good now!!

Meditation:

Like it is said music is food for the mind, Meditation is food for the Soul! It feels so fantastic to just sit peacefully with our eyes closed and meditate. Just 20 minutes of meditation and you are done! So relaxing and soothing. Many people misinterpret meditation for concentration whereas meditation is de-concentration and, concentration is its result. Dancing:

Some people love dancing, while some don’t. But, many studies have shown that dancing freely can relax our mind and can be a fun de-stressing exercise.

Exercise:

Exercise is the best stress buster! A healthy body is a home for a healthy mind. Just a few minutes of exercise, can help us reduce stress and, can uplift our mood. Playing a new sport or any sort of physical activity can not only divert our mind but, also will make us feel better.

Take a quick walk in the park:

If we are feeling low or lethargic, it is the moment when we should just get up and take a brisk walk around a park. Being with nature is an easy way to uplift your mood. Also, fresh air, more oxygen aid the process. Sitting on the beach or near the shore also helps.

Complete a task:

Well, another quick way to feel good instantly! Remember that work that you have been delaying for quite a long. A task that you have been procrastinating for like forever! It is the perfect time to do yourself a favour and, finish it right away. I feel we all can relate to this one. This is a personal experience thingy!

Unleash Your Creativity:

When you are feeling low, try to do something creatively different. Like if you have never sketched, painted, do it can see how good you feel, even if the result is not very appealing.

Serve someone in need:

It is a fact that when you help someone in need or the less fortunate you actually feel good. Because it is our nature to serve and share! It feels great if our random act of kindness can make someone smile. Isn’t it? Try it out yourself to experience the blissful feeling.

Positive videos/Movies:

There are numerous videos that give out good vibrations, talk about positivity, motivation, and stuff. When viewing the right people, they can be really helpful. Same goes with the movies. Fun, comedy movies can truly prove to be mood uplifting!

Talk to the person who loves you:

This is what most of us do when we are feeling down. We talk to someone who understands us. It can be a friend, a sibling, a parent, a neighbour or anybody. It is nice to just pour out our feelings before our trusted person and feel lighter.

It is important that we feel grateful for everything that we have. After all…Happiness is a choice!

  1. Heyy Meghana I am a regular reader of your blogs. I enjoy reading them.Complete a task and serve someone in need appealed me a lot.

  2. A good write, you could add another pointer here, i.e: writing down if there’s something bothering you, it could be the topic that’s keeping you low or maybe the person involved. On a personal exp, I would suggest writing all the good things involved. It does help, tried and tested so, just a suggestion. Thanks again for the refreshing article. Cheers
