Q & A: Author & an award-winning Blogger Roma Gupta Sinha | Celebrating Women

Roma Gupta Sinha is my blogger buddy who is an author of two interesting books. I am glad to have her as a part of my #CelebratingWomen series. Here’s Roma’s story for you in her own words…!

***

“I am a born storyteller who loves to don several hats at one time and that’s what gives me a high. Born to a banker in a remote town known for oppression of a female child, I was contrarily always an apple of my dad’s eyes and my mom’s pride who groomed me at every stage and fighting all odds gave me the desired freedom to follow my dreams. Hence, I decided to pursue their dreams first and then mine. So, I went the academic way, completed my engineering and worked with some fantastic organizations like Honda Cars, Ikea of Sweden and Tata Motors across multiple countries in multiple roles for several years before I embraced my first love of writing which I have been doing since the age of four.

The sole reason I started my blog was to bring forth as many true tales of the Indian Women as possible to the masses, to prick their conscience and be the face of positive change for them no matter how small a step it was, as long as it was in the right direction, it satiated my heart. For my writings, I was conferred with Woman of the Year Award in 2015. I also started my unique Communication Skills Academy for 6-60-year-olds to aid them to bridge the gap between their intellects and their expression for I believed that’s one skill we Indians lack despite a brilliant brain and incomparable hardworking capability. I also give free grooming and counseling for needy kids and housewives in some specific batches to do my bit for the improvement of the society. At home, I am a doting wifey and mommy and my world revolves around these two men in my life. That’s me for you!”

Now, let’s learn a little more about Roma’s journey and grasp a thing or two in the process! 🙂

Can you share your journey from being a blogger to now an author?

  • So as I said I penned some heart-wrenching and some inspirational true tales on my blog and thus many women from all around the world who related to the same connection with me. In 2016, one of my Indian readers living in Australia and working at a very good position urged me to bring her struggle as a mom of a girl to the world and to the largest possible ordinance. That’s when the seeds of my first book were sowed in my brain and my heart pushed the storyteller in me to put together these true tales in search of some respite for the others who face or may face similar situations. I trial tested a few and served them to my readers. The response they received was humungous and so I soon became a proud author that too by serving to the globe what I always wanted to. I always wanted to be a freelance journalist and here I became one, one of its own kind.
  • My second book is an out an out chicklet romance written with a lot of love and purity of thoughts and probably that’s what connected with my reader’s heart.

Tell us more about your books…

  • My First book ‘Dare to Defy the Destiny’ is a nonfiction collection of short true stories each leaving your brain provoked or warmed and wanting to take an action immediately. The beauty of this book is I have met or interacted with all the protagonists of the real tales and have brought forth their thoughts in the rarest unadulterated form. It is available on Amazon and all those who have read it have left touching and deeply appreciating notes for me which is truly gratifying.
  • Romance is a genre that occurs naturally to me, thus after writing the above book, a college romance, an innocent piece of fiction occurred naturally to me and thus my second book ‘The Fragrance of True Love’ was born. It is a love story of a girl with a traumatic past with a boy who wishes to weave a fairy take for her. In terms of making money, this book earns me far more royalty and people going the characters Priyam and Veer very loveable and relatable. You can grab both my books on Amazon.

How do you balance work and personal life?

  • I plan well in advance all my work except for writing which I totally do when my heart wishes to, sometimes at two in the night. I am a multitasker who religiously jots down and ticks off her to do list every day to make the most of available time.

Your personal mantra for happiness?

  • Weave sweet memories every moment in life as much as you can. Make every moment a celebration. These memories will aid you to overcome the down times of your life when the sea is rough, to sail through smoothly.

How can aspiring authors decide whether to opt for the regular publishing system or self-publish their work?

  • Both the systems have their pros and cons, the fear of rejection being the foremost in the former. So if you are convinced you have created a masterpiece, go on self-publish it, but if possible hire a professional editor to fine tune it before you release it. If you have a dedicated follower base market it yourself and with the help of your blogger buddies or you can hire aid. It’s your baby so you can choose what suits it the best. Parallely, do keep pitching with big publishing houses, maybe one of your ideas click with them and you can use their reach in your favour too. Never close any door for you.

Is copyrighting the book necessary before the publishing process?

  • No, it is optional. It is advisable but an extremely tedious process.

There are many writers who aspire to become an author someday, what is the one thing that you would like to share with them?

  • Well just that go for it now, maybe you will abandon your first manuscript all together but the only way you polish yourselves in this art is constant writing and editing and recreating characters and weaving them together over and over till we ourselves are convinced.

What’s next in store for your readers?

  • A third book is on my mind, it is in nascent stages though. A good news shall soon reach your eyes hopefully! Amen!

Any special message for the readers of my blog?

  • Soak yourself in your passion, there is no food for your soul like it. Built your unique career around it. Take the leap of faith and do it today and rest all will fall in place!
