Intense things I learned from Twinkle Khanna’s Mrs Funnybones!

Who would have thought one can learn such intense things from a light-hearted, fun book! Twinkle Khanna will indeed be proud 😛

  • Title: Mrs Funnybones
  • Author: Twinkle Khanna

Don’t Give Up: The Author addresses the issue of the increasing numbers of Suicides in India. Things are bound to get overwhelming and tough at times. You’re gonna fall. Things might seem going against you. No matter how difficult it may seem, giving up our lives isn’t the solution. Just hold on, hang in there.

Look at Life from a Broader Perspective: The author’s view on the everyday hassles is truly refreshing. The author in her unconventional take on everyday things finds humour in the smallest of mishaps that occur in our lives. Often times we take ourselves and our work way seriously. As if our lives depend on it. Having a light-hearted outlook not only it helps to lighten the mood, but it also helps but also to cope up with the never-ending stresses of our corporate and personal lives.

Knowing where to speak up, and where to shut up: Twinkle Khanna depicts were to be outspoken about our views, and where to hold back upon them. Often when we express our viewpoints, we go overboard, often leading to problems, and when we keep things to ourselves, we prevent ourselves from opportunities. Both aren’t healthy. Having the discretion of choosing one above the other is the single, most important lesson one can take in life.

Seeing things for what they are: Often times we overvalue certain things and make them big in our heads than they truly are. We tend to form molehills out of moles. It leads to unnecessary stress.  Also, the opposite leads to a casual attitude, being analytical on things and finding the middle ground help us deal with stuff, better.

Existing in a state of duality: The author Twinkle Khanna subtly depicts an interesting state of duality. She expresses her hatred towards certain responsibilities she is entrusted with, be it certain aspects of being a mother, attending some irrational and annoying clients, handling some not-so-helpful house help, or being a misfit bahu in a different-than-hers Punjabi Family. Although she expresses her dislike, somewhere inside she accepts this and carries her duties without holding little-to-no grudges.

Now although most of us have at least few such responsibilities (which we just can’t do away with), it is indeed a wise idea to just accept the fact that things are a certain way, and will remain that way, and the things really outside our control zones are to be accepted and dealt with without the constant dreading. This not only is a healthy way to deal with it mentally AND physically, but also a practice of keeping our sanity.

Finding time for the body: Saying that being a mother of two (one of them being a toddler), a working professional, a columnist, and a bahu in an Indian setting are super timing consuming tasks would be an understatement. Out of all these responsibilities, the author repeatedly mentions how she makes time for maintaining a healthy physique. We too must make it a priority, and take care of our bodies, considering the fact that we won’t be getting any real replacements. A healthy body fosters healthy, positive thoughts, which eventually snowballs into a better life.
