Akshay Kumar starrer Airlift is a gripping edge-of-the-seat thriller!

Airlift

Movie Review: Airlift

Director: Raja Krishna Menon

Star Cast: Akshay Kumar, Nimrat Kaur, Purab Kohli

The story of the film is based on a real life incident and depicts how one man, along with a few responsible and good hearted people, take it on them to evacuate over 1 lakh 70 thousand Indians from the war-torn streets of Kuwait, is incredible. It is tremendously inspiring, makes us feel proud and, awakens the goodness in us while celebrating human values.

Whats Good: Everything! Seriously, our film industry should produce more such movies and bring to light several stories of such unsung heroes of India.  The narration and the execution are exceptional with a realistic approach. The director Raja Krishna Menon deserves all the praise for narrating this tale with utmost sincerity. Priya Sheth’s cinematography is worth the praise. Also, the scriptwriters – Suresh Nair, Rahul Nangia, Ritesh Shah have weaved the script excellently. The story is gripping and manages to keep the audiences hooked throughout. Both, the first as well as the second half are equally powerful. Editing by Hemanti Sarkar is applause worthy, as it keeps the movie crisp without dragging it unnecessarily. All the actors, especially Bollywood’s action maestro Akshay Kumar rendered soul to his character. Nimrat Kaur supports him as a loving wife convincingly. It was for the gleaming performances of all the actors, that the story became impactful and heart touching.

Whats Not: Well, for a movie like this, minor flaws can be easily over looked. But, one thing I still feel the need to specify is the casting drawback of the Iraqi Army General who has several scenes with Akshay Kumar. His acting was annoying and that accent was sheer irritating. Other loopholes get over shadowed by the noble intention of bringing this story to light.

Watch or Not? There is no way you can miss this movie! It is an absolute must watch. It’s gritty, it’s tragic but, it is also a movie that narrates the tale that is exceedingly inspiring and heart touching. It is a treat for all of us to enjoy this film over the extended Republic weekend. Happy watching!!
