Here are a few Yoga Asanas & Pranayams to fight Corona Virus | COVID-19

The human kind is going through a tough time. With a pandemic like COVID-19, we are all forced to stay indoors prevent ourselves. Yes, ‘prevention’. This is the word that I am going to be focusing on in this article. By now, we all must have read a lot about this virus and thus I am not going in details of how, where and what! Let’s directly dive onto the solution and action steps.

NOTE: It is always advisable to do learn asanas and pranayamas from a trained and certified yoga teacher. Every ‘body’ is different and every ‘body’ has some or the other complications so if you have any surgery or any illness related to the spine or ailments like asthama etc. please consult a yoga teacher before practising these!

Try Pranayama to keep your health in check!

Pranayamas can prove to be highly beneficial to improve immunity. The real meaning of Pranayama is – Prana meaning our subtle life force or the energy. Yama means channelizing it. These three pranayamas can help to clean and clear the respiratory track and also boost immunity:

Bhastrika:

Kapalbhaati:

Anulom Vilom (Nadi Shodhan Pranayama)

They will also keep your mind calm and offer you the much-needed relaxation.

Asanas that help you build your immunity and keep you in the pink of your health:

Note: it is important to do these postures, slowly and correctly. Focus on your breath while practising asanas. I would recommend you to watch a few videos from reliable sources to learn these asanas first. Or best learn from a trained yoga teacher to avoid any mishaps. Women in their monthly cycle also need to avoid or take care while doing certain postures.

Get rid of stress! It brings down your immunity and invites diseases!

Meditate to calm your mind. Meditation is not concentration, it is de-concentration. It is complete relaxation. It is an art of doing nothing. The results of meditation are miraculous. Here are a few links to free guided meditations:

Om Meditation- 10 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTaPD9SDNe4

Pro Tips:

  • Download these meditations and later play them on airplane mode. This will ensure you don’t get phone calls or messages during your practice.
  • Sit on a chair, mat or your bed. Don’t sit directly on the floor.
  • Don’t open your eyes during the meditation. Complete fully and then slowly open your eyes.

This is the time to embrace our Indian culture and go back to our roots! Adopt simple living and an Ayurvedic lifestyle. Start simple things like taking warm water with lemon and make herbal tea with turmeric, ginger, black pepper, and jaggery. AVOID white sugar for a month or a few weeks, it brings down the immunity. Drink lots of water, get 6-9 hours of sleep. And yes, stay away from rumours and don’t stress.

Remember yoga like any other practice requires consistency to show results. But better late than never to start these practices. Start as soon as possible. And if possible, learn them properly from a certified trainer. It is always recommended to have a guru (a teacher) to learn something and gain fruitful results. Stay safe 🙂 take care! Lots of love and good vibes!
